Day 6 | July 15 | Mully's Brewery Galaxy Queen

Why We Picked It: Bill was excited to see a beer from Mully's. I never heard of it. That a perfect 24DOB selection.

What Mully's Say About It: Not a damn thing on its website, but Untapped says "Double dry hopped Blonde, brewed with flaked oats and wheat."

ABV: 6.5%
IBU: 25

Website: https://www.mullysbrewery.com

What Mully's Says About Mully's: Mully’s Brewery is a family-owned and operated brewing facility started by Cindy and Jason Mullikin in 2012. World Brewing Academy graduates, award-winning homebrewers, and certifiable beer geeks are who we are…

Proudly operating out of Prince Fredrick, Maryland and sharing great, local made, craft beer is our passion.

We are dedicated to craft. We focus on traditional styles as well as interesting and unique beers.

We love experimentation and creativity so there is always a new, interesting, or downright crazy idea in the works or on tap!

Day 5 | July 14 | Black Flag Brewing Z Morris

Why We Picked It: My favorite Columbia brewery and a Save By The Bell reference. Yes, sir!

What Black Flag Say About It: "Easy drinking lightly hopped ale utilizing all centennial hops. A Bayside favorite."

ABV: 4.9%
IBU: 20

Website: http://www.blackflagbrewingco.com/

Fun Facts: Zack Morris is a selfish punk. He's not your friend or anyone's friends at Bayside High. Zach Morris is trash.

Day 4 | July 13 | Black Flag Salted Lime Sour

Why We Picked It: My favorite Columbia brewery (although Hysteria is excellent) came out with their version of Dogfish's Seaquench, so why not give it a try.

What Black Flag Say About It: "A soured wheat ale brewed with fresh limes, coriander, and salt! Our take on a beer lime-aid, this brew balances salinity with sweetness topped off with a crisp lime finish."

ABV: 4.8%
IBU: 10

Website: http://www.blackflagbrewingco.com/

Fun Facts: Established in 2016, Black Flag was Columbia's first production brewery. Frisco Tap House brewed, but did not can or distribute (they just started too!)

Day 3 | July 12 | Key Brewing Undertow

Why We Picked It: We love to try dramatically different beers from the same brewery. Also, we are mixing in the always controversial gose (pronounced Gowz, GOHZ-uh, GOHZ, GOH-sh, GOHS, or maybe its goose.). There will be a few more in the 24DOB.

What Key Brewing Company Says About It: "Enjoy this Gose made with blackberries and organic Atlantic kelp for the perfect combo of sweet and salt. Always drink cold."

ABV: 4.2%

IBU: No

Website:  https://keybrewing.com/

Fun Facts: This beer apparently began as a collaboration between Key and Evolution Craft Brewing in Salisbury in 2016, before evolving into a Key only production.

Day 2 | July 11 | Key Brewing Speed Wobbles

Why We Picked It: What we said before about session IPAs, and I'm not sure our D.C. colleagues have been exposed to much beer from the Dundalk brewery.  Also, 24DOBer Theodore is currently obsessed with this beer (per photo below).

What Key Brewing Company Says About It: "This is the first beer in a series of customized batches. The Bustin Boards crew and the Key brewers dropped in a gnarly combo of Amarillo, Mosaic, Simcoe, and Chinook to land this satisfying IPA that you can ride with all day."

ABV: 4.6%

IBU: No

Website:  https://keybrewing.com/

About Key from Key: "Key Brewing Co.—its name a nod to the national icon from our native Baltimore area, Francis Scott Key—is the only brewery in Dundalk, Maryland. Key joins a burgeoning tradition of skilled brewers in the region and, of course, the incredible movement of skilled craft brewing across America.

We are purists of sorts, but not elitists. Key beers are true-to-style: True blue. Traditional. There should be nothing complicated or intimidating about craft beer. To us, craft emphasizes a thoughtful yet straightforward approach and commitment to the highest quality. Key beers are deliciously drinkable. They are supernacular.

Since our launch in Summer 2015, we’ve had the privilege of sharing beer we love—beer we make—with our neighbors and enthusiasts all around the region. (Eventually, the nation!) Simply put, we’re brewing, drinking, and living the dream."

Day 1 | July 10 | Burley Oak Homegrown Session IPA

Why We Picked It: We are all fans of a good session IPA, and it feels like a good type of beer to kick off 24 Days of Beer, summer edition. Personally, I'm a big fan of Burley Oak. I highly recommend visiting if you are out in OC. It's a short drive to Berlin.

What Burley Oak Says About It: "This S.M.A.S.H. (single malt and single hop) beer contains 100% local pale barley grown 15 minutes from our brewery. Exclusively hopped with Citra, this session IPA boasts dank aroma with a clean malt finish."

ABV: 4%

IBU: 40

Website: burleyoak.com

Fun Facts: About Burley Oak from Burley Oak: "Hi there! We have been hard at work building this brewery keeping in mind sustainable practices and using local materials and craftsmen. We love our town of Berlin, Maryland and hope you join us in our taproom for a couple of pints and growlers. Our goal is to produce distinctive beers whose quality is unsurpassed using new and traditional brewing methods."

24 Days of Beer: Summer of COVID edition

24 Days of Beer is a joyous celebration, and we can use a little more joy as we navigate this very unusual summer. Plus, beer is good.

As during our annual holiday version, the rules remain the same: Each day you are assigned a beer to drink, and then you are asked to share your thoughts on each beer on this blog. There are no hard and fast rules beyond that. We know it's hard to stay on schedule, so just do the best you can and feel free to go back and add comments later when you are able to get the beer.

Technical note: To comment, you need to create an account and login into blogger. You must then publish the comments. If you have difficulties let me know.

Now, on to the beer list! Below you will discover the Summer of 2020 list, which is heavy on local breweries, a nice mix of summery styles and a mix of IPAs and the very trendy Hazy IPAs.

Festivities begin this Friday, July 10. See you all at our virtual bar!
