  1. Wow what a color! How'd they do that...fruit? Oh crap, it is fruit. I searched for a good quality chutney , but having no idea what a chutney is , or what makes for a quality one - I drank it with a pickle. I think the pickle may have counter balanced the fruit and rum, making for a runner up to WGB.

  2. Have you ever dated someone that looks a certain way, say a straight laced person. But when you get them home and you take off their clothes they act a completely different way, say like a person that totally takes control and is very experienced? That is this beer (can it be called a beer?). So if you are expecting a beer, then you are in for a surprise. And if you like to have that person take total control and satisfy you every way imaginable, then I hope you like Rum because if you do, then you will be totally satisfied with this selection. I like Rum and therefore am totally satisfied; Who wants to share a cigarette?

  3. This is the first beer I've had this month (as part of the 24 days of beer, not counting the horrific Dos Equis that I had at the Mexican themed holiday party at work) that I would not have again. Rum and oak are two things I want nowhere near my beer. Rum is my least favorite booze and this has an overpowering rum flavor. I don't even notice the actual beer. Rum should only be consumed in Dan's Cafe in 1996 when they gave you the actual flask to go with your can of coke. The first round you're asking for more coke but after about three rounds, you're waving around cans of coke and asking why have all this damn coke.

    1. OH MAN...DAN'S CAFE!!!! Oh the memories!!!! Gets me thinking, will I ever visit there again? I know I shouldn't, but that's kinda why I want to.

    2. +1 for the Dan's Cafe reference. I never knew what to do with the 3/4 full can of ginger ale after finishing my whiskey.

  4. Forgot to mention the past part of this beer. 11.2 ounces.

  5. I'm going to pass on this in the future too. It has that taste like somoene poured wine in my bud light.

  6. This is interesting. My first thought is carbonated rum. I enjoyed this, but it needs to be sipped slowly as if I was enjoying a good bourbon or whiskey. Too big of a sip can be overwhelming and I think I could drink one or two in a sitting. B

  7. I was reading some of the reviews and it fascinates me how some people can find something so pleasurable while others can be so turned off. I thought this was one of the best beers so far. Great color, smooth, nice rum infusion (I happen to be a rum fan, go figure). One of my favorites so far. And truly unique. I'll look for this at my local liquor store.

  8. A few months ago, I had the rum finish version of this beer. While this was slightly different, I liked both the same. In my opinion, I only tasted just a hint of rum. It was the oak taste that was the dominant flavor. I am not a rum drinker, so only the subtle taste of rum was good. When I drink wine, I prefer wines that are aged in oak barrels because I feel the oak enhances their flavor. I think this selection was likewise enhanced by the additional of oak chips.

  9. Can't decide if I like it or not. It had a weird taste I couldn't place. Don't think I'll try this again. C-

  10. I'm a little wary about this beer. Nice color on the pour, not much head. Smells good. First sip...this is pretty good! I can taste a hint of rum but it's not over powering. Nice Scottish beer taste. I like it! Although I didn't have venison or duck tonight, this did go well with dinner. I would love a few more of these. Grade 8.5 of 10, B+

    1. Yo T...you just decided to skip commenting on yesterdays wake and bake?!!!

    2. Drank two tonight. I knew the Wake n Bake was going to be bad, but powered through it. Actually still have a couple sips left and it's growing on me...or the 9.4 ABV is kicking in.

    3. All that caffeine at the same time as all that booze...is a really interesting sensation. I don't do caffeine...it sure did make me feel funny.

  11. Pleasantly surprised with this one right here. Was skeptical after seeing "soft fruit" in the description and thinking about all the Bourbon barrel stouts I've had vs this here rum infused brew. Took that first sip and the skepticism vanished. Nice tropical fruit vibe and a great deep red color. The rum was more of an aftertaste rather than front and center but it worked nicely. The beer was alot lighter than I expected considering the deep red color and rum infusion. I consider this a summer beer with the light taste, tropical fruit, and rum. This is what I shoulda been drinking all those many drunken nights wandering the streets of South Beach. A-

  12. I'm also pleasantly surprised - I thought I would hate it! This is what the 24 DoB is all about - trying something that I would never order or buy on my own. I'm confused by the slight fizz though, it doesn't seem like I'm drinking beer, just a light, sweet tasting cocktail. This was a nice choice. Check.

  13. So...II was a bit leery of this one but really excited to try it. Anything that says aged with "rum oak chips" makes me think that it must be cheap and crappy...any good barrel aged brew should be aged in an actual barrel. Certainly not soaked in a vat with some crummy barrel that went thru a wood chipper...just sayin.
All that being said...I kinda enjoyed this beer.
I'll never drink it again but sure am glad that I got to try it!

  14. I'm intrigued by today's offering. After doing a little drink research and preparation, we begin..

First sip, I hate it. Too much rum, and an unpleasing aroma. Where is the mulled spice? Second sip, not good, but a little better. Third, just a little more pleasant. Then after the fourth sip, I thought, maybe, I might end up liking this. Then I have my fifth sip, and boom: I hate it again.

This unhealthy cycle continues to the point where I am bewildered and confused about my relationship with this beer. After careful consideration, I think its best that we go our separate ways.

    Grade: 4/10.

  15. Can't say I have ever had a beer like this. Overall, it was just weird to me. I was not sure what I was drinking at some points. Also, why is there only 11.2 ounces? Why am I getting cheated out of the other .8?

  16. I've had the Innis & Gunn Oak Aged twice before and I really like it - I seem to have a thing for barrel aged beers and try as many as I can. If you haven't tried any of the Heavy Seas Uncharted Waters series, just do it. I have to start with the package - even though I'm annoyed by only getting 11.2 oz. in a bottle, the bottle/label is a beautiful thing, and all of their beers have that same look and feel. I haven't had this one before and was really looking forward to trying it. I got an immediate rum/oak aroma, and the taste made me think of butterscotch candy. Overall I enjoyed it, but it was a bit on the sweet side of balanced for me.

  17. Having had beer mixed with bourbon and tequila, I always wondered if the sweetness of rum would be a detriment or improvement to beer. I have to confess that I love rum, so I am biased, but this was a pleasant surprise. It was gone before I knew it although that could have had as much to do with the day I had than the beer. But I digress.. Yes, I would drink this again and I think it would be a winner with the other members of my family as well who tend to go to the sweeter side.

  20. I don't believe I've had a rum aged beer before, but I like this very much. Great flavor, color and aroma. Good stuff.

  21. Both liquor infused/aged beers and Scotch ales are hit or miss for me. This was a double whammy of the bad sides of both I guess. Sweet and sour and too much rum for my liking. Could not drink this. Gets the F.
