Day 23 | August 1 | Troegs Brewery Haze Charmer Hazy Pale Ale

Why We Picked It: Back-to-back Troegs? Why not. Plus, hazies are all the rage (or at least they were a few weeks ago). Breweries are soon off to the next thing.

What Troegs Says About It:  Haze Charmer emerges from a soft, swirling cloud of oats and unmalted wheat. Vigorous dry-hopping adds a second phase of haze, propping up the oils of El Dorado and Citra hops. Each sip delivers notes of juicy pineapple, fresh grapefruit and candied peach balanced by a hint of white pine and low bitterness. A soft, juicy and hazy pale ale, Haze Charmer is here to cast its spell on you.
We taste: juicy pineapple, fresh grapefruit, candied peach, hint of white pine

ABV: 5.5%

IBU: No

  1. WOW. Can you all believe we've reached the halfway point all ready.
I can't wait to stop by my tiny little beer elf's mushroom house to pick up the next 24. Please, please?!
Fine. I do want everyone to know I've enjoyed this even more the second time around. Thank you to our hosts who not only ran around to get all this beer, spot us the cash (even for shady characters like me) BUT during a pandemic non the least. When was the last time someone did that. 💯 years ago thank you very much.
    Bravo team, bravo.
    Is it 5pm yet?

  2. Always been a Troegs fan. Last night's was good but not great. Tonight's beer is just outstanding. Pretty much everything I am looking for in a beer. Hoppy, tasty, delicious. Are those proper descriptive terms? First beer we've had this month that is new to me and I will definitely be buying more of. 4.5 out of 5 I exhausted all my Harrisburg and Hershey references yesterday. 4.5 out of 5 Harrisburg native and 24 DOB alumni Don Stacks?

  3. This is basically a better version of the beer yesterday. A small citrus smell up front but a nice “real ipa” hop taste. None of this lets throw a ton of citra until it tastes more like juice. It has that nice herb/pine ipa taste with a light malt finish. Not a over the top malt, but a little bready malt. The alcohol does not linger or hit you over the head. Just a nicely balanced and lighter IPA. Exactly what I would look for if I wanted an IPA. Great beer 4.2 out of 5 finally’s.

  4. I wasn't that happy with this one. I didn't hate it but once again fell short.
There are these beer s that have all the right flavors but they seem distant, fading flavors. I call them watery but it's not really that.
So this had the right flavors, but didn't fill the pallet. Also, did anyone else sense a hint of anise (or fennel)?
Anyway. For the right flavors but not the full volume 2.65 of 5 Christian Slaters.

  5. I am a huge fan of Troegs and this beer reminds me why. Hazys are tough to do well, and they did it. Nice and smooth, very refreshing with just the right amount of hop flavor.

    2. The trick to a cheap ice cream sandwich is to let it warm slightly in your pocket. So the outside becomes almost sticky to your fingers. Then it has actual flavor. Why...no idea, it’s just the way life works.

    3. @Shep. Not the same without aunt Becky. She's going to the big house.

  7. This is subtlety well done and not as over juicy absurdity of some haziness. This was well balanced and flavorful version of a hazy beer. 3.55 out of 4.
