December 19 - Natty Greene's Red Nose Winter Ale

About Natty Greene's Red Nose Winter AleFor Red Nose, we start with a classic American red ale, a beer that's slightly sweeter than an amber, made with plenty of caramel malts and just enough hops for balance. Then, we bring in a spice profile that supports the aroma of the beer.

Fresh ginger gives Red Nose a nice bite. A bit of orange peel adds tartness, and cinnamon brings in a clean and spicy top note. Together, they're a perfect complement to the sweet, malty foundation of the red ale.

This is a beer that’s crafted to complement your holiday meals and celebrations. Like the season, it's festive, warm-hearted, companionable – and meant to be shared with your favorite folks.

  1. Ever been at a bar eyeing that someone special once you arrived. And unfortunately you keep end up meeting crap all night until finally the moment arrives where you meet that special person? You meet and it is just Fing delightful; not wanting it to end but of course since you waited all night it doesn't last long. I have been eyeing this beer once the IPA line up started and I was so excited to have this beer tonight and it didn't disappoint. Wow did I need this beer after the bitter barf we had the past 3 nights. This was smooth, clean, no aftertaste, no bitterness and no gag reflex. O so delightful! It ended too quickly and am looking for another.

  2. This is a better version of the Weyerbacher Winter Ale bolder, sweeter, and more spices. However like the Weyerbacher its not standing out that much especially after some of the last few entries. This beer would've fared better earlier in the lineup. B-

  3. Greensboro previously known as the home of the ACC tournament, can now also be the home Red Nose winter ale.I liked this beer so much I purposfully had to slow down drinking it for fear of missing out on all the flavors the description above mentioned. I got the caremel and orange but missed cinnamon and ginger. Regardless I will be looking for this at the store next time. A

  4. Didn't really get the ginger, cinnamon or orange. Just tasted malty to me. Was drinkable enough, but not my favorite. Maybe I'm just not feelin' it cos I'm tired of wrapping Christmas presents. I'll be in a better mood tomorrow night.

  5. Didn't get all those fancy Christmassey flavors, either. That said, I started out expecting to post a "Meh" ... but by the end of the bottle, I quite fancied the inoffensiveness of this bev! It was smooth and tasty and the perfect compliment to a late District Taco dinner. "B"

  6. This wins for the "fastest drinking" category. I didn't find it all that interesting at first, but the balance and body were excellent and it was gone in less than two minutes... or maybe I was just really thirsty.

  7. Yum. Liked this. I live in a house that worships on the IPA altar, so I'm not supposed to like this more than last night's entry, but I 100% did. Great addition to the winter line up.

  8. Meh. Tasted like many of the other winter ales. Too heavy and too spicy for me. I think I have lost the ability to distinguish these supposedly distinct winter spices and now lump them all in the category of "beer spices." And I prefer my beer with few to none of those.

  9. The problem with having so many great beers is that when good beers come along, they just aren't all that notable. This was good. The ginger was evident, but not overpowering.

  10. This is the 1st beer I have tried from Natty Greene. They just started distributing in the area a few months ago. I am impressed with this beer especially at this price point.
Big fan...looking forward to tasting more of their beers!

  12. Very good drinkable beer. Nothing outstanding here, but this is solid. Nice winter ale. Grade 8 of 10. B-

  13. I think this is a good beer to have on a cold winter day next to the fire. It's average and I wouldn't go out of my way to get it again.

  14. Interesting to read the comments on this one right after I tried it. Seems like tastes were all over the board. I was one of those that got way more cinnamon and ginger than orange peel, though the description seems to say that they added that more for a little tartness than overall flavor I guess. I really like this beer and would add it to my winter list next year as well. Great balance and it got even better when it started to warm up a bit. Paired especially nicely with the freshly baked Christmas cookies at my mom's house this year.

  15. I'm not the biggest fan of spices in beer, but this one is working for me, if I'm going there. I could have ONE of these each December and be very happy about it.
