December 16 - Bell's Winter White Ale

Why we picked it:   We love Bell's beers.  This is Katy's favorite.  We can blame her if it sucks, but if it's good, remember to thank her.

About Bell's Winter White Ale:  Taking its cues from Belgian-style white ales, Bell's Winter White Ale offers a lighter yet abundantly flavorful alternative to the traditional heavy winter warmers. Fermented with a Belgian ale yeast, this blend of barley & wheat malts yields a mixture of clove and fruity aromas, all without the use of any spices. Deliberately brewed to retain a cloudy appearance, Bell's Winter White Ale is a beer for embracing winter.

  1. Had two of these on draft on Thursday night. Definitely a quality beer, but it is a Belgian white so prepare yourselves.

  2. So excited to try the christmas Ale's! Then I tasted this and thought it was a Heifessen (sp?). Cloudy and tasted like a lite wheat beer. I like wheat beers but not lite wheat beers. This reminded me of a summer beer and not a winter beer. Not much of the spice came through for me only the taste of Miller lite. Brad and DJ will love this beer (if they like wheat beers) because it is very light.

    Rating 6.7

  4. This beer was pretty good, and had a slight bite to it at first. I don't think I enjoyed any of the wheat beers during the 24 beers of summer, but this seemed completely different than those. I could enjoy a sixer of these on a Sunday after a 'Skins win but at 5% ABV a piece I could enjoy a stupid Jersey Shore marathon after 6 of these. Good pick Katy.

  5. taste like cinnamon to me, but a cinnabun from CinnaMonster would taste better. After Katy recommended this good beer, I'm going to go back and watch the rest of 21 Jump Street and move Magic Mike to the top of the Netflix que just for her. 7 out of 10

  8. What Sarah said. Smelled like bananas on top, spicy finish. We are not a fan of Belgian beers but if we were, this would top the list. Moving on to New Belgium Snowy Day and catching up on my Jersey Shore recordings.

    1. My new Belgium rep brought by some samples of the Snow Day and Black Ale. I was pretty impressed by the snow day but the black ale was outstanding.

  9. Drank this late last night after multiple beers and wine at an event earlier in the day. Unfortunately, I fell asleep/passed out before I could post. This is what I kind of remember:

Don't think Ive had many white ales, if any, but this was an above average brew and Belgian. A nice change of pace for a winter seasonal. Grade: 7/10

  10. Not a fan of this beer. Very indifferent. Kind of bittery in a not good way. But I did get to pair it with a Redskins win over the Browns which adds to the rating.

    Grade: Indifferent

  11. Another Belgian white. I like the banana and clove aromas from the yeast...but not really getting what is so different about this "winter white". It's a well made beer with great flavor, but wheat/white really is not my choice for every day drinkin. I'll enjoy this beer but not sure I would ever seek it out in the future.

  12. Yup, it's a "winter white." And Allagash is better. Tasty, but I think I'll go buy an Allagash.

  14. You can never go wrong with a winter brew. It could be yellow snow in a bottle and as long as you call "Winter ""brew, ale, lager, fest"" whatever", I'm all over it. The picture on the front of the bottle was delightful to look at as well. I do appreciate good artwork while chugging a beverage. I would definitely recommend this one to the peeps in my posse!

  15. Playing catch-up tonight...this is the only beer in the group that I have had before. I am a fan of this beer and many of the other beers Bells creates. I think it has the right mix of flavors and at 5.0% ABV can be a great session beer in the winter months. To me it is an all around great beer. Grade 7.5 out of 10, B
