December 15 - Founder's Dry Hopped Pale Ale

Why we picked it: No real reason.

About Founder's Pale Ale:  A testament to Cascade hops in a bottle, this medium-bodied pale ale has a refreshing citrus flavor and a distinctive floral hop aroma due to the aggressive addition of hops during fermentation. You’ll notice a slight malty sweetness with a balanced hop finish. Perfect to enjoy anytime, anywhere.

ABV: 5.4%

  1. First! My hopes were high once I saw Cascade hops. I was not disappointed. I could drink this beer all day, every day. But the problem is that it doesn't seem very distinctive. A fine beer, but nothing distinguishable. I'd rate it highly and definitely order it in a beer, but not blown away. A solid grade of B. By the way, I disagree with Ro's forthcoming summary.

    1. Not at all. No Dogfish beer is this light on the hops. 35 IBUs? I think they use water with twice that number.

  3. The best thing about this beer is that John agreed to drink mine.

  4. I agree with Bill. This is a good, solid pale ale -- but good pale ales are a dime a dozen these days. If you're going to make beer, make it YOUR beer somehow.

  5. I was looking forward to this beer all day and really disappointed when I tasted it. I don't like the floral Hops and it just was very bland. No distinctness and the bitter aftertaste got to be too much at the end.

  6. Funny, I just read all the comments and agree with them all! It does remind me of other beers you can order for much less money.

  7. If you've had one Pale Ale, you've had them all. I tasted no difference from this one than any other one I've ever had, and I'm not a big fan of Pale Ale. Though after a long day, I just wanted to sit down, relax and have a beer so I made sure his was the first one. It hit the spot, but that's not saying much.

  8. This beer is about as good as Billy Batts' birthday turned out.

  9. I'm with bill and the rest. Good beer...just nothing distinctive or special about this one. If I was at at 7-11 and looking for a sixer...I'd pick this one over any other sixer one might find at a 7-11. I suppose that is not saying too much, but I would be careful about saying too much about this beer.
All that being said...I crushed this bottle after a long day at work...it was good

  10. A nice way to finish the day. It wasn't a dazzling beer but a very good pale ale. I would have another if I could. Grade: 6.5/10

  11. Yep, good beer nothing special. But every brewrey needs a standard Pale Ale. B.

  12. Well I'm not too disappointed with that one! A good beer, well made but not distinguishable from many other in the market... there is better Pale Ale out there! Rated 6.2/10

  13. I liked this one a lot. Perhaps it was due to doubling up on Sunday and pairing it with a Redskins win over the Browns. Also this is a weird statement, but I like the squat bottle. I'm easily swayed by packaging (thats what she said.)

Grade: Throwing up in a crowded Fair Oaks Mall mens room Saturday AM while wife and kids are waiting in line for Santa Pics.

  14. Pretty good tasting brew. I could handle a few of these. It was quite quack-tactic! If I could drink beer at work, I would drink this one. I'd drink this one, because I would only want to drink a few of these, which is good because you don't want to get shitfaced at work. Bring on the next one. Cheers

  15. I really liked the taste of this beer. I don't usually like pale ales so I was pleasantly surprised. It was smooth and delicious!

  16. I agree with those who said that this is a solid -- but unremarkable -- pale ale. I'd put this beer in the same category as Sierra Nevada -- a beer I could drink consistently and often with nothing bad to say. It's hard to go wrong with Founders in my book, though. I look forward to their Breakfast Stout all year. And I'm anxious to try the All-Day IPA. (Challenge accepted!)

  17. I rather liked the smell and color of this beer. The taste is good too. Nice beer but not overwhelmingly distinctive. I could definitely pound these though. 7 out of 10, B-
