Why we picked it: We wanted a pilsner in the group. Total wine rated it a 93.
About Prima Pils: Heaps of hops give this pale lager a bracing, herbal bite over layers of soft and smooth malt flavor. This refreshing combination of tastes makes Prima a classy quencher in the tradition of the great pilsners of Europe.
Malts: 2 row German pilsner malt
Hops: German and Czech whole flowers
ABV: 5.3%
Case Cost: $35

This one reminds me of my childhood... When I would say something bad and have to eat a bar of soap... Because that's what it tastes like.
ReplyDeleteGenerally, I don't much care for Pilsners. This one did not change my mind. That said, it didn't seem any worse than I usually find Pilsners to taste!
ReplyDeleteI like Victory beers. This one isn't my favorite, but it's pretty good. This could be a result of my love of hops as discussed in earlier posts. It could be the fact that it's Friday. I could drop my beer in a pile of shit and drink it on Fridays.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, maybe it was the soft and smooth flavors of the Malt, maybe it was the German and Czech whole flowers instead of fresh cut French flowers, but something just didn't taste good. Plus I hate Pilsner so this tasted horrible in the first sip, 2nd sip, 3rd sip and I dumped it down the drain. The after taste pushed me over the top. I just couldn't finish it which I pride myself on doing every time we do this beer and I am disappointed I only lasted to beer 7.

Wayyyy too Hoppy. Just a nasty ass 12 oz concoction of horrible. Not sure if its the worst beer I've ever tried, but damn its close.
ReplyDeleteGrade: Quit drinking altogether
Let's see. I have a 5th of Jim staring at me, but these reviews make this beer sound so good. Decisions, decisions.
ReplyDeleteNormally it's alcohol abuse but this needs to go right down the drain. On to the Jim.
Usually I'm a big fan of Victory. The beer too. I've had this one before and remembered it being better. But I don't really like pilsners so probably not surprising I'm not a big fan. I agree with Joe, something seems a little off. Tony, you didn't microwave this six pack did you? This low ranking is even more depressing since I picked up my beers in the Victory box so I expected more. But, at least I am not comparing it to fracking fluid.
ReplyDeleteGoes well with cajun food. Not as good by itself. I like it better than the sweet cherry flavors of last night (and by sweet, I don't mean awesome). Need more cajun food.
ReplyDelete"by sweet, I don't mean awesome" - that's fantastic.
DeleteThis beer sucks.
ReplyDeleteTonight's beer is dangerous...I'd classify it as a gateway beer.... since claiming victory, I have had 2 summer shandies, and 4 tall face plants ( kind of ominous...huh?) I have a feeling the list will go on...
ReplyDeleteThis beer is neither good nor bad. It's just there. The color reminds me of Miller Lite (or as some like to call it here WGB). Unlike WGB, this has a slight aftertaste. Think I'll finish this one quick and grab a Sam Adams Winter Lager.
ReplyDeleteWGB - fantastic
DeleteBased on the reviews here, I was ready to pour this beer down the sink before tasting it. But then we cracked it open and... not as bad as advertised. And this is from two people who definitely don't like Pilsners and/or German beer. That being said, the only way I'd drink more of this beer is if I was in Munich, at an outdoor wooden table at Oktoberfest, with a pretzel and a stein staring me in the face. Proust!
ReplyDeleteSo Prima is a German exclamation of joy. I would've gone with Nein! There are few pils I've liked and this isnot one of them. I finished it, which is the nicest thing I can say about it. Least favorite so far. Grade: 3/10.
ReplyDeleteVery decent unfiltered pils. Pilsner is not my preferred style of beer (deepest apologies to those unfortunate few of you that think miller lite is the WGB) but, for the style it ain't half bad. Rich and chewy texture and nice bitter hops. Well crafted pilsner. I'd drink of sixer of this anytime
ReplyDeleteI accidentally drank a cup of my own pee today at the doc's office; by that, I mean that I just intenrtionally drank this Victory Pils.
ReplyDeleteGood thing that we have several Miller Lites in the fridge and we're watching Moneyball again. Damn, I f-ing miss baseball!! Pitchers and Catchers voluntarily report to camp on February 12th!!
Mmmmmmm, Shake Shack cheeseburger and a 16oz can of WGB!!
Defeat.

DeleteI like Pilsners and enjoyed this...my favorite thus far. My 2 year old could of designed a better label. Piss?? Really Ivan? Reminds of the movie Kingpin...
ReplyDeleteNeighbor: Roy, can you get sick drinkin' piss?
Roy: I think you can.
Neighbor: Even if it's your own?

ReplyDeleteI drank two of these (Thanks Katy!) and I didn't think it was bad at all. I actually liked it. Not a great beer, but I don't think it's as bad as some people made it seem. I'll give it a 7 out of 10, C+
ReplyDeletevery nice pilsner!like it Rated 7/10
ReplyDeleteF.Y.I:
The birth of Pilsner beer can be traced back to its namesake, the ancient city of Plzen (or Pilsen) which is situated in the western half of the Czech Republic in what was once Czechoslovakia and previously part of the of Bohemian Kingdom. Pilsner beer was first brewed back in the 1840's when the citizens, brewers and maltsters of Plzen formed a brewer's guild and called it the People's Brewery of Pilsen.
The Czech Pilsner, or sometimes known as the Bohemian Pilsner, is light straw to golden color and crystal clear. Hops are very prevalent usually with a spicy bitterness and or a spicy floral flavor and aroma, notably one of the defining characteristics of the Saaz hop. Smooth and crisp with a clean malty palate, many are grassy. Some of the originals will show some archaic yeast characteristics similar to very mild buttery or fusel (rose like alcohol) flavors and aromas.
Who is this mysterious guy?
DeleteVery nice. Good crisp maltiness and nice hop character which a lot of Pilsners lack. A-
ReplyDeleteVery tasty! I was somewhat shocked that not everybody enjoyed this. It's a pilsner just like Miller Lite! I think next thanksgiving we need to have a beer class that certifies all participants of the 24 days of beer. I think I'll have another
ReplyDeleteAlright, being out of town or out drinking with friend for the better part of a week has me way behind here. So, who's up for getting hammered on a Sunday afternoon?
ReplyDeleteNot a great way to start the party with this beer. I'm not a pilsner guy. I will say that this is a pretty good version of a beer style I don't care for. I'd certainly recommend this to folks who normally drink Budweiser and want to step up their came. But I don't think I'd go much further than that.
