December 20 - Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier

Why we picked it:  Total wine rated it a 97 out of 100

About Weihenstephaner Hefe WeissbierThe oldest existing brewery in the world, The Bavarian State Brewery, Weihenstephan, dates back to the year 1040. Internationally recognized as a site for brewing science and education, Weihenstephan combines tradition and craft to produce high-quality premium brews.

Nothing refreshes more than this naturally cloudy weissbeer with its wondefully rich yeasty taste.  Goes very well with light meals, which are not too strongly flavoured - veal sausage in particular.

ABV: 5.4%

Case Cost: $35

  1. I was expecting a crappy aftertaste and really enjoyed this wheat beer!! I finished it so quickly too, I was hoping for more. Definitely the best wheat beer for me. It was light and I loved the light head that foamed up almost over the glass.

  2. I will admit I do like the German beers. I prefer the Germans to the Pale Ales. The Hefe Weissbier is right up there with the Hofbrau Hefe weizen in my opinion.

  3. Generally I disliked the hefeveizens (sp.?) less than I disliked the ales. This is the exception. This is in my bottom 3 of the beers that we've tasted so far.

  4. I liked this one and I'm not a hefeweisen fan at all. It was sweet, but not excessively. The thing I liked about it the most, is I could easily see myself drinking 6+ and not getting some kind of splitting headache.

Kind of weird to spend $45 on this and not make comemnts, let alone drink the beer. Lately its been me, the 2 unemployed guys and a couple randoms.

Where's Ivan's robot reviews? Bolter's 4 word reviews written from his blackberry in the elevator between meetings? Claire/Katy's reviews telling me how amusing us chimps are? The mysterious husband/wife team that is drinking half a beer each night? And who can forget anonymous1 and anonymous2?

    Hello!!??

  8. I'll never be a Hefeweizen fan, but if one has to drink a Hefeweissen, this is the one to drink. I've had this in liter form sitting outside at Standard at 14th and S. Good BBQ and this beer goes outstanding with it. Best of the summer beers we've had so far.

  9. I am one day late on this post, but I really liked this beer. In fact I feel like there have not really been any beers that I have not liked in this 24 days of beer. Is that a sign of a problem or a lack of taste?

  10. This is a nice refreshing beer. Probably a spring/summer beer, but since its been in the 60's around here lately it's semi-appropriate. I would also have to be in the right mood or setting for this beer. For me it would be a beer I would want to have with seafood or other food pairing, but not a beer I would want by itself. This would not be a session beer for me.

    I'll give it high marks...an 8.5 out of 10, A-
