December 4 - Southern Tier's Old Man Winter Ale

Why we picked itNorm from Norm's Beers recommended it.

About Southern Tier's Old Man Winter Ale:  With the onset of winter, the brewer’s mind turns to providing warmth. For our winter seasonal, we offer a rich and complex amalgam of hops and barley that will put the feeling back in your toes and lift your spirits above the snow. OMW throws a deep and inviting hue with a thickness that clings to the glass and the warmth of an open flame. Because of its high alcohol content, Old Man is a heady brew that encourages sipping and pondering its essential richness. Drink it fresh now, or cellar a few bottles to see how this old man becomes wiser with age.

ABV:  7.7%

Case Cost$30

  1. Wow what an interesting beer. Thick and potent. Perfect watching a game with the fire going next to the Christmas tree. Rich is a great description for this beer. I don't like Ale's or so I thought because I have both Ale's ahead of the Wheat beers so far.

    Rating 7 out of 10.

  3. Gross. I couldn't finish it. Rating: no way jose. Not worthy of a check minus.

  4. Oh my...I like it...ALOT! I could drink a couple of these, and since Katy is not finishing hers, I think I will have two. It's not a beer I would want out though, it's a kind I want to sit back and enjoy in a relaxing setting. I'll give it a 9 out of 10, A-

  8. Very nice. I feel like I have been nursing it a little, but that is what it's good for. Also went well with the chocolate snack I had.

  9. Agree with most of the comments. A nice beer to drink while sitting at home after lighting up the Christmas tree.

  10. The fall and winter brews are always my favorite flavors of the seasonal beers. This reminds me a lot of Sam Adams winter ale which is growing on me. Overall it was a great beer and enjoyed while decorating the tree

  11. I liked this beer. Tasted better as I drank. Definitely a beer you nurse. I could see drinking a 6-pack which is all you'd need given the high ABV.

    Grade: Hammered

  13. I hated the first couple of sips I had of this beer!! Eventually, I got used to the taste and the beer went down fine after that but it took a while. I figure that it will take me a couple of sips of this beer anytime I drink it before I enjoy it. I am sure that with a buzz I would be fine with this beer. My least favorite so far.

  14. Another ale. Predictably, I'm not a fan. Very bitter taste. Hoping there's a lager on the list soon.

  15. Went back and drank this on the heels of the Founder's off-brand Old Chubb. First sip I thought I liked it. Then I realized that there was a bit too much in the malt category and not in the ale category. Just not hoppy enough and too thick for my taste. No problem downing the whole thing though.

  16. This was the best of the beers had to this point, which isn't saying much.
