About Hofbrau's Dunkel: Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer.
Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With an alcohol content of around 5.5% by volume and a subtle spicy and rich flavor, this is a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasions. A beer in the traditional Munich style!
Type: Bottom-fermented, dark "Münchner Bier
Case Cost: $32
I can hear this beer calling my name from the fridge. It's tough working from home sometimes!
ReplyDeleteI like a lot of Hofbrau beers and this one is no exception. Quite tasty. Dark and flavorful, but not overpowering. Makes me think wistfully of drinking this at Oktoberfest in 9 months. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN!!
ReplyDeleteIt may have helped that I accidentally drank a hofbrau oktoberfest from my personal supply first. Maybe I'll make it a hofbrau night. Mmmm.
BUT - 11.2 OUNCES!!!???? COME ON YOU STINKING GERMANS!!
This beer is average. It actually doesn't have much of a taste, but it's easy to drink.
ReplyDeleteIt was kind of just average for me...maybe it's because a had a few beers before I had this one. I had a really hoppy bear before drinking this which, I think kind of ruinned it. I found nothing wrong with it, but nothing amazing either. I guess I am just going to have to go to Octoberfest next year to give it a proper tasting. 7.5 out of 10, B.
ReplyDeleteHofbrau House is the shiznit. I'm actually drinking the HefeWeizen right now because I drank the Dunkel last time, and this is by far the best beer up to this point. Did I mention the Pork Knuckle at the Hofbrau House is the bomb..I did. and the grated potato dumpling with gravy tastes like the finest punani you have ever gotten into..except without the tang.

This was the first middle of the road beer for me. There was nothing spectacular about this beer but it wasn't horrible either. I'll give it a C.
ReplyDeleteI guess this is good. I respect it but just not my type. Sort of like that chick that everyone else thinks is super hot but I just don't and I can't explain why. Above average though. C+.
ReplyDeleteTony, let us know what kind of hoppy bear you had.
I liked this beer. Good taste and smooth going down.
ReplyDeleteToo average tasting to really enjoy, but not hateful.
ReplyDeleteBill - I had a couple of Troegs' Hop Back Amber Ale. 6% ABV and they are tasty! I recommend you try a few!
ReplyDeleteCould not post before arriving at the CAPS game last night. Nice beer. Went down smooth and tasted good. Nothing overbearing (smell, aftertaste, etc) and nice after eating to finish off the meal.
