Day 4: Atlas Dance of Days

Why we picked it: Atlas is a strong local brewery and we thought it would be a interesting contrast to yesterday's pale ale.

What Atlas has to say: Dance of Days is a pale ale generously hopped with beautiful and bright Citra and Mosaic hops. We add wheat malt to the grain bill of the Pale Ale to give the beer a robust body and silk mouth feel that perfectly compliments the floral and citrus flavors from two of our favorite hops. Named in homage to the DC punk scene, this well balanced Pale Ale has hop flavor and aroma for days.

ABV: 5.7%
IBU: 30

Fun Fact: The brew shares the name with the book, which is described as "The nation's capital gave birth to the most influential punk underground of the '80s and '90s. Dance of Days recounts the rise of trailblazing artists such as Bad Brains, Henry Rollins, Minor Threat, Rites of Spring, Fugazi, and Bikini Kill."

  1. 21 bottles of beer on the wall, 21 bottles of beer
Take one down... wait, this one’s a can.

I liked this one a lot. It was nice and light and refreshing. I’m going to look for it next year when the weather gets warmer.

  2. This is my favorite so far. I was thinking the same thing as Jay...I need to keep this one in mind for summer, and baseball. I didn't post on our day 3 salmon beer... I thought the same about that (it grew one me, after starting out seemingly bland) but this one has way more flavor. I've been to my share of breweries and beer tastings but still couldn't tell you really what a citra or a mosaic hop is, but I do know they are tasty. Gotta go with my first 5 Xmas stars, and 4 for yesterday's.

  4. Great beer. Great label on the can
Also great reference to classic DC punk. A big impact on me in my younger days. Although many of them were straight edge.

    4 stars.

  5. My first sip I wasn't paying close attention when I took the drink and I almost spit it out. Wtf did they put in this beer? Second sip wasn't much better. It got a little better in the second half but not by much. I prefer more beer flavor and less whatever they put in this can. 1.5 figgy puddings.

    1. But did you finish it or pour it down the drain? That's the ultimate low grade (I think that peach beer and maybe a jalapeno beers are the only ones I couldn't power through.

  6. I don't know whether I'm ecstatic or ludicrous about this beer. Like Mr. Plow says in the first comment here, I'll be searching this one out next summer. Or maybe on my to a cow pasture in early Fall in State College facing Beaver Stadium. Bonus points for presentation. 4.66 Lords a Leaping.

  7. This is my kind of pale ale. Smooth, hoppy-ish, and a teensy bit of bite. I like the comment above about this being a great beer to pair with baseball. I'll admit, that I was a bit hungry tonight, and was snacking on some Dubliner cheese right before my first taste (a great pairing methinks), and was listening to a new (I think) cover by Wilco of "What's So Funny 'Bout Peace Love and Understanding," so maybe I am just in a happy place, but happy I am drinking this. I give it 4 Bad Brains and .33 Yoda's.

  8. I should be sitting on my porch in 85 degree temperatures drinking this one. It's a session-like smooth that begs you to have another, but has enough flavor and bite to keep it interesting... The being said, it doesn't feel like a very symbolic brew for DC punk. I think that should be a wee heavy or something whiskey aged and with about 12% ABV. I tried listening to some Ted Leo while drinking this, but ended up with Benjamin Booker followed by the Arcs. Mellow, bluesy rock was probably a better fit for this tasteanyway. I give this one 3.5 Ian MacKayes.

  9. I tried to post on this at 5:30 yesterday after consuming it in under 5 minutes to celebrate the culmination of my bucket list December weekend roadtrip to Rochester, but not posted. Seems to me these should be posted sooner. I got so upset I drank today's beer as well. But I can't post on that yet either. Very upsetting.

Anyway, this beer. Loved it. I've had some bad experience with mosaic hops before. I find them a bit harsh. But citra seems to be everywhere and I do like it and it definitely all works here. Yup, very smooth and refreshing. Glad we put this on the 4th when it was still 50 degrees. 4.5 H.R.s.

  11. great aroma, great flavor, although it could use a little more body given the happiness and bitterness. Although, it would make a great summer beer. very drinkable. I'm really enjoying this sitting by the fire, pretending it's warm outside.
