Day 15 | July 24 | Silver Branch Brewing Squeegee Master

Why We Picked It: Bill and Jeremy speak highly of Silver Branch, which for some stupid reason I was unfamiliar with. Crazy! Another gose folks. Speaking of, we really need to arrange a Silver Spring beer crawl when people start doing those things again. Denizens, Silver Branch, and Astro Lab all lined up

What Silver Branch Says About It: This tart ale was brewed with passion fruit, grains of paradise, Titian lime, coriander, and Himalayan pink salt. Squeegee Master is like drinking in a fresh ocean breeze!

ABV: 4.7%
IBU: No

What Silver Branch Says About Silver Branch We celebrate the beers that arose from centuries of brewers experimenting and refining their recipes and approaches in Belgium, Britain and Ireland, Central Europe and the Americas. The casual ambiance of our taproom will evoke the gemütlichkeit and camaraderie enjoyed in turn-of-the-century American biergartens; British pubs; a sidewalk café in Prague; or a low-key taproom in Portland or Poland.

  1. Haven’t tried the beer yet, but love the idea of a beer crawl. Also at the end of August or start of September we could also do a social distance drinking at Brookeville Beer Gardens. Lots of outside grass to sit on and drink. Its a great place if you have not been.

  2. I've experienced all those beer locations except Poland.
I think it's time we address what is happening: the little beer elves are trying to slowly convert us to Gose, sour, tart beer lovers. NEVER!!! But I do kinda like this one. Am I getting used to them? Is this more balanced then all the others? Am I changing? Who knows. I'd say it's much better then the Hawaiian Punch one.
    2.5 of 5 warheads.

    1. It’s way more balanced and more sour then juice for sure.

  3. Just cracked this open. Poured with a very large thick white head. We paired it with some homemade Gyros.

I was very worried going into it seeing the passion fruit as the first descriptor on the label. Thankfully I got much more of the fermented lime taste. The lime reminded me of a fermented lime chutney a friend of ours makes who owns an Indian restaurant in Laurel. The lime really helped to bring out the tang of the raw red onion and tzaztiki sauce.

I really enjoyed it with the dinner. Granted this is not 100% my type of beer I found it much more of a sour then some of other fruit juice beers we have had.

4.2 out of 5 Jesse Katsopolis‘.

  4. Not bad at all! It's kind of like the fancy man's version of a Corona Margarita. Perhaps that is fitting for this event. I do appreciate that the flavors are pretty balanced and quite enjoyable. I definitely prefer beer flavored beer, but this one does a nice job.

  5. Like others, the passion fruit description made me a bit nervous. While I didn't love this, it was quittd good and a well balanced tart beer that didn't overwhelm and had a nice clean finish. It would be an excellent dessert. In the sour category, I rank it right behind SeaQuench and Salted Lime. I give it 3.14159265 out of 4 fruit pies.

  6. So last night was my anniversary. We started it out with getting a to-go margarita which was the first margarita I had consumed since February. It was glorious. Then I moved onto this beer (after a glass of wine of course). The first warning should have been the pour. I mean, I like to think I've poured many a beer in a glass in my day. I must say, I consider myself an expert beer pourer. But this thing produced the head of which I haven't seen since some freshman overpumped the keg at the DU frat party in 1991. It was impressive. Then I took a sip. I tasted nothing. Literally nothing. I took a sip. Nothing. Started worrying about coronavirus. Finally detected a faint hint of lime. So yet another sparking La Croix water masquerading as a beer. Not a fan. At all. 2 out of 5 John Shusters. Yes, it's a stretch, but it's all I've got.

  7. I dunno. Maybe I was in a bad mood when I had this, but after I drank this all I could think was “if Sierra Mist were a beer.” 1.25/4.00.

Pretty rough rating, I know. What can I say. “Some men just like to see the world burn.”

  8. Just opened the can. It fizzed everywhere and made a mess. Really not sure why it was so overly explosive out of the can, because I really wasn't so overwhelmed on drinking it. But now I know why they named it: After cracking open the can you need a friggin squeegee to mop the shit up when it goes everywhere.
Otherwise it gets very sticky. I can imagine if you leave it on the floor for an hour you need to squeegee it back and forth with so much vigor that you actually become a Squeegee Master in the process.
It has been a few decades since I had a alcopop such as Mikes Hard lemonade so I cant remember what they tasted like. I'm quite happy that my aging memory has deleted all recollection of those sticky flavors.
But I wonder what has happened to all the staff over the years that Hard Mike recruited, trained, developed ... and lost or furloughed over the years. Maybe these well groomed people with honed fruity cocktail drink making skills headed East and to Silver Spring MD

    2. OK, seriously. I will finish it [rather that dump it] so by default it gets 2.0/5. Despite a confused aroma I dont actually dislike it. I will venture out and try some old world Gose because after all these fascinating drinks I am curious to see if I would like the less fruit forward and/or more subtle varieties. Defintely a lot of confusuion in the glass [and quite sticky] but not so bad that I wasnt curious enough to drink it until the end
