Day 20 | July 29 | Evolution Delmarva Pils

Why We Picked It: Generally a fan of Evolution, but kind of forget about their pils. So let's do a little taste test with the Heavy Seas variation.

What Evolution Says About It:  supremely sessionable Eastern Shore take on a Czech-style pilsner. Golden in color with floral and citrus zest hop characteristics from German Saphir and Opal hops. Crisp with delicate malt flavors and a dry finish. Making any Eastern Shore adventure ever-better! Pairs well with: Summer, outdoor events, steamed crabs, seafood, fried chicken, mild cheeses, salads, Asian food, Mexican food and spicy foods.

ABV: 4.8%

IBU: 30

  1. Painful to note that our esteemed moderator still has some orphaned Heavy Seas text on here. But that does remind me that this beer is so much better than yesterday's. Still a Pilsner so only as high as it can go, but this is how a Pilsner should be. Light, clean, easy-drinking. Maybe I'm just excited about the low humidity but I will almost go as far as to say I enjoyed this. I think I have drunk more beers from the eastern shore this month than anyone in history. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I give this 3 out of 5 Sarah Conners.

    1. Ooops, late night write ups get that level of attention. Fixed.

  2. I'll buy into the side-by-side comparison "story line".
First impressions this is overall a better tasting beer, period.
It's also a better representation of a Chech pilsner.
Three things that don't fit with a euro pils is it's a little cloudy, to low on ABV and a little to carbonated. Is there a names for different types of carbonations amongst beer aficionados? You know, like Eskimos have 1000 different names for different kinds of snow? This is what I call the microbubble carbonation tickle kind.
Final conclusion, average pilsner execution, but I like it as a beer and could easily drink another, then another.
    3.2 of 5 high-end knockoffs.

  3. Much better then yesterday’s knock off. I enjoyed this much more then yesterday’s and a go to on tap beer at a lot of places with limited options. It does tend to be a little over carbonated, but the hop balance is always nice and a crisp Pilsner after taste. Always an enjoyable lighter beer

    Solid 4.1 out of 5

  4. Yeah, this was a big step up from yesterday... but still a pilsner. Just never that interesting, but this one did have some refreshing qualities to it. Maybe its the overcarbonation. 2 out of 4.

  5. I used to know this guy who loved drinking Pilsner Urquell - it was all he drank, and I never had it before. I remember trying it and thinking it tasted like it was skunked - maybe it was. Now, mind you, I don't think I have had a Pilsner Urquell in like 20 years, but I think I liked this just as much. Maybe better? As Pilsners go, I thought it was solid. A nice change-up. 2.60/4.00 Green Bottles.

  6. Wow, excellent! This is such a good rendition of a pilsner. It's like a slightly more refined version of St Pauli girl. I like the happiness. Very well done

  7. Agreed, with Ethan. This is delicious. Heavier, hoppier, and less clean than a Czech pils but still refreshing and light(ish). It was perfect with a burger and some spicy pickles.
