Day 16: Tröegs Blizzard of Hops

Why We Picked It: Another regular member of the 24DOB.

What Troegs Says About It: "We created this Winter IPA to toast hop growers around the world for another successful harvest. This storm of hoppy citrus and pine notes is a bright reminder the end of the Hop Cycle is only the beginning.

We taste: spruce tips, pineapple, orange rind."

ABV: 6.4%

 IBU: 80

Fun Facts: Troegs was voted the 4th best brewery tour by USA Today. Behind New Belgium, Bell's, Boulevard and just ahead of Dogfish. It's a short drive to Lancaster, to thise interested. local Alexandria-based Port City made a strong showing in seventh.

  1. Another excellent example of an IPA. I once again question the IBUs here, while bitter (I like bitter... have I mentioned that?), 80 seems high, especially if compared to yesterdays beer that was in the 60s. I'd say they are comparable in bitterness, may yesterday seemed more bitter than this one.
Does the beer selection in anyway impact today's weather? We'll never know the truth, but it was definitely appropriately named for our first real day of snow.
I slammed this one as it was so refreshing. From the TV show Cheers:

    Diane:
What l can't fathom is how one can drink cold beer in freezing weather?
    Cliff:
When the British ruled Punjab they drank steaming hot tea on the hottest days of the year to balance the inside and outside temperatures.
Conversely, drinking an ice-cold drink on a cold day results in a more comfortable body temperature.
    Alright.
    Diane:
Why do you drink ice-cold beer on a hot day?
    Cliff:
What else are you gonna do with it?

    2. Now that's a reason to drink.

  2. Love this beer. I don't know why I only drink it was part of the 24 beers. Should probably start bulk purchases. Of at least six. Just a lovely IPA. Really wish Ro didn't like it so I could have the full can. And maybe another sixer. 4.5 out of 5 Newt Gingrich's. Who I just learned was born in Harrisburg. And who has a half-sister named Candace. Who does not seem to share Newt's political leanings. Maybe she and Mary Cheney can get together. Oh wait, Candace is already married to an Illinois politician. If you need me, I'll be following links in wikipedia for the next two hours.

    1. Haha. I go down that rat hole all the time. Last night I started with Maradona to Camora to football clubs from Argentina, Newell old boys. It was 1:30am in no time.

  3. We did not quite get a blizzard today but we did get a day off school which made this taste slightly better than usual. I am starting to think that situation affects beer taste more now. Pleasantly hoppy. 3.75 out of 5 stars. I have said that IPAs are not ideal for beer miles but I am kind of curious how this one would work. I'm willing to tie this one with Budweiser so 3 out of 5 for Beer Mile Chugability.

    1. Try Founder's all day IPA. Lagunitas has one too, and their independant again.

  4. I had a dentist appointment today that was expected to take an hour and instead it took 3 hours and 4 shots of Novocaine. All while having a ton of work to do and figuring out how the boys would occupy themselves instead of bugging me while working from home. I was irritable and cranky... and then the Blizzard of Hops wiped my anger and anxiety away. Full body and bitterness, it's a lovely beer (and a perfect description of a girl I dated in college). Like Bill, I love this beer, and don't understand why I don't drink it more. 3.75 of 4 Wikipedia rabbit holes.

  5. Excellent IPA. Like others, should drink this more.

I have probably spent more time with Wikipedia than I have spent with any of my family members.

  6. If I live to be a hundred
I'll never forget that big snowstorm.
The weather closed in and, well, you might not believe it,
But the world almost missed Christmas.
Oh, excuse me, Call me Sam...
