Day 21: Avery Brewing Sweater Party

Why We Picked It: I love me a high ABV winter warmer.

What Avery Says About It: "Sweater Party warms from the inside out with specialty malts and mulling spices, including cinnamon, orange peel, allspice, cloves, and ginger."

ABV: 8%

IBU: N/A

Fun Facts:  So I was curious who to blame for the whole ugly sweater thing. Apparently, Canadians have something to do with it:

  1. This hit the spot on a chilly day and this suites it fine. I love the aroma and definitely a true winter mix of flavors. Not quite as flavorful as I hoped as the finish is a bit tiney and doesn't have the punch I expected from a 8%. It reminds me of a lesser version of Southern Tier's 2Xmas. It's good, but not great. 3.25 out of 4 hipster holiday sweaters.

  2. This new 24DOB experience has been great. 21 days in and I'd say 4 or 5 beers have been in my flavor range. Everything else, things I'd walk past in the store. I love the opportunity to try stuff that I'd normally just wouldn't bother to.
While I wouldn't say I've changed my taste, I have had some happy surprises. Thank you everyone.
This is one of those surprises. It's a good beer, with an unnecessary spice flavoring, that oddly works. I could drink this again next Xmas but that's it.
It reminds me of the time I found myself in Vienna during Xmas season. My local posse took me to a street street to have warm alcohol spiked potpourri (Gluehwein). Not my thing, but when it's freezing, in Vienna full of Christmas lights and locals, you drink it.
In conclusion, great beer spoiled by spice. 2.5 itchy necks.

  3. Street street? That would be street market.

  4. This tastes like Jagermeister in beer. Not that Jager is a bad thing but not in this beer. Not today. Maybe my taste buds were corrupted by all the wine I drank at the Winter Solstice party I was at this afternoon but still...not a faan.

  5. Spice-filled winter warmers are not my thing. This was definitely spiced. Can't figure out if it was nutmeg, cinnamon, or cloves or a combination of the three. Strong, but not too strong. And the beer didn't taste strong at all. I'd put it in the top third of winter holiday beers. So I'd have it again, but wouldn't hunt it down. 3 out of 5 Jay Olsen EIA holiday party sweaters.

  7. the Fireball version of beers.
Not being funny, but if anyone liked this beer they were either being polite, biased, or perhaps found it a good starting focus in their prep to brew their own abominations. Possibly with aspirations to create a fun, laughable, party homebrew that makesguests throw up prior to going home. I threw out 80% of the glass of this shite

    1. sorry for my late comments [9 months later], its just that i didnt fancy opening it back in December.

Now my fridge is empty [apart from a few 24dob bottles/cans that are >8%], i'm scraping the barrel now and have no choice but to try these...
