Day 6: Red Shedman Farm Brewery Door Number 3 IPA

Why We Picked It:  An IPA from a small underated local farm brewery.

What Red Shedman Says About It: Not a damn thing. Seriously, nothing. They are not very good at updating the website, so it may just be that.

ABV: 6.5%

 IBU: 70

Fun Facts: On the grounds of Linganore Winecellars, Red Shedman Farm Brewery & Hop Yard is located among the rolling hills of Mt. Airy, on over 200 acres of farmland, between Frederick and Baltimore, Maryland. It cultivates several varieties of hops including Cascade, Columbus, Chinook, Nugget and Crystal.

Personal note: I can attest that its a good place for letting the kids run around and explore while enjoying delicious beer and wine.

  1. 4:32pm: It's FRIDAY. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
omg, OMG!!! This is the one baby. I'm going to marry this beer someday. Best one so far, I even poured it into a pint glass after my first sip.
This is local? amazing. As for the brewers comments, makes sense, Shep, you and UnTappd say it's 6.5% ABV while the can says 7.2%.
OK, to my review: I love bitter beers, reds, ales of all kinds and pilsners. So this is spot on. I guess there's citrus flavor in it, I can't tell over the bitterness, but I don't care, bitter=good. Did I mention I like bitter beer?
In all seriousness, this is really really good beer. what more is there to say.

  2. I had this one early in the day. Also, I had it after a Southern Tier IPA (which I love), so it had that working against it. Still a delicious brew with the right amount of bitterness-flavor balance. Would definitely have a six pack. 3.5 out of 4 Monty Halls. (Bonus to those who get that reference and know why I used it for this beer).

    1. Hand Raised!!! Game show host, Door Number 3. He had three doors to chose from.
      Interesting statistical fact:

  3. Well. Fine. Sort of like an amber IPA. Which is fitting since I read a long article today lamenting (sorta) the decline of Ambers at the hands of IPAs.

  4. Very nice beer. Red IPAs are some of my favorites, particularly when they are nice and malty. This was definitely in that direction. Of course it has to be hazy, because it is 2019 and all. Even though I'd rather have my beer be clear, it was fine for this one. The back end bitterness was perfect to complement the malt character. I'd drink this again for sure.

  5. Was more than curious by the can. I wasn't here at the time of Montys problem [not because I'm too young - but simply because I'm foreign. Or alien as Glenn would say] I understand the stats behind Monty's door problem. It was the fact that the can has FOUR doors on the label that confused me. Did anyone notice this trivial fact? Tried to figure it out after finishing the beer, but given I was in catch up mode [tonight is Friday 13th] and I had the 7.7% heavy seas too I couldn't think straight any more.
I have to say: I actually liked the 3 doors. Heavy hops indeed - but malt balance worked. With all of this didn’t notice the high abv. Reminds me of a trip to Bruges when I was 25. Had a nice glass of beer that the barman recommended along with my [first ever] real steak frites. It was so good I had a 2nd glass. Tasted so good. Then when I left the restaurant I couldn't figure out why I was walking in circles.Something about 7%. I think its called door number 3 to help people differentiate between the front door, back door and the bathroom

  6. Pin it on the drifter, they sleep beneath the bridge.
One plays the violin and sleeps inside a fridge.
There was a murder in the red shed, murder in the red shed.

  7. Spectacular. I mean it was the 4th beer from this list I had last night, but Ro split two of them with me. Solid night with this, the Blizzard of Hops, and tomorrow's which I cheated with and will be explained shortly. A malty IPA. I like that. Really need to visit Red sometime when the weather is a bit nicer. I think they have some cross country race up there that involves free beer at the end. Need to look into that. Good god, this place is an hour from my house! How is that even possible? I'm only 40 minutes from Fredneck! Are there Amish up there? Is Red Shedman Amish? I give this beer 4 out of 5 rumspringas.
