Day 11: Harpoon Dunkin' Coffee Porter

Why We Picked It: Keep rolling with the porters. Plus the 2018 name branded coffee porter just needed to be tested, but I'm wondering if it goes best with a box of Munchkins.

What Harpoon Says About It: Beloved Dunkin' coffee brings robust, roasty notes to this balanced and smooth coffee porter. This porter is our tribute to all the days that Dunkin' has helped us fire up the brew kettle.

ABV: 6%

IBU: 15 IBU
Aroma: Espresso up front, followed by notes of dark chocolate and slight vanilla

Fun Facts: Harpoon has all sorts of recommendations on how to drink this beer. in a blog post. My favorite : "Tailgating is a marathon, not a sprint and it can certainly last all day. Dunkin Coffee Porter should be your go-to beer when you first pull up to the tailgate and everyone is sharing donuts, muffins, and bagels. The amazing coffee notes in this porter make it the perfect pairing partner for these breakfast favorites and will be a friendly reminder of your other favorite breakfast beverage."

  1. I'm starting to think I have a problem since I am first one to check this in every day. I mean I took four different Metro lines to get home tonight! But I think maybe it's not me, it's you. Anyway, this was much needed on two levels after 5 hours of sleep last night and the 24 degree walk to the Metro this morning. Definitely porter weather so we timed this right. I had this a couple of weeks ago and didn't really like it, but I'm enjoying it more tonight. Maybe due to the cold and the need for coffee. I wouldn't mind going back in time 25 hours and having these last two side by side. This one seems a bit "thinner" and a bit more of the coffee. But this is definitely going down better than it did when I had it last time. And I think I'm getting more coffee. Probably the weather again. I like it, I'd drink it again, but it's not going to crack my porter top ten list (yes, I think I do have one). Sidenote, if you do make it to Jailbreak this weekend, the porter they have right now is fabulous. But, I give his one 3.75 out of 5 Bill Rodgerssessesss.

  2. Like Bill, I found this better today than the last time I had it. I am not sure I am fan of a brewery and chain coffee colab though. I also only had about 5 minutes to put this back before leaving for a 50 year celebration of Apollo 8 at the National Cathedral. Ever since the beer mile though, I have gotten way better a putting back beer in a hurry though. It was also thinner though for a porter so it was easier. 3.5 out of 5.

  3. This is a pretty nice Porter, not too much coffee, but also not a lot of other flavors. Very drinkable, though. I'd prefer some more hop bitterness at the end. It finishes very clean, making me want to come back for more, just to check and see if there's something else. Not my favorite, but quite nice. I'd give it 3.5 cahrs pahked in havahd yahd.

  4. Reasonable. Taste no coffee. Never got the dunkin obsession. Maybe that's a new England thing.

  5. Was able to try this back to back with yesterday's flying Dog. Nice initial crisp bite [harpoon stab?]; but from a rich initial flavor hit it becomes more bitter and more hollow aftertaste. Not as smooth or as long finish as either the disco or the flying dog. But for me at least the coffee isnt overpowering - nothing like as much a bad bitter aftertaste as I found from Pesky Petes Sad Sake [I thought that was supposed to be reeses like - but the coffee is super-starbucks bitter; also it really isnt sake]. I liked the death at the disco. But I have to say for me [- even though I like my coffee hot -] yesterdays flying dog glided off into the sunset with the top merits of these latter 3. Beat the disco by slim margin, but a re-match is on. But for the Dunkin: Give me the donuts; I'll leave this brew for those proverbials who like 'coffee and donuts' as they work their shifts. [Have to be careful what I write here from a legal perspective.] Changing subject [neighborhood watch issue:]. 4 times in the last 3 weeks I had to take a double look at a suspicious looking gray Dodge Charger with paddle shifters, a driver wearing a hat, and a built in laptop on the dash that seems to loiter lately on Shaker Drive, Columbia - right by the Dunkin Donuts. Its a 25 limit that goes into a 30. W***er seems to like pulling over minvans and Priuses. OK, I feel for the Minivans. For the Harpoon beer: 3.0 Cousteaus.

  6. I like Dunkin coffee and Harpoon beer, but this pretty much just OK. Certainly, less impressive than Kujo or Death By Disco. This one lack much coffee flavor and finishes without much else to say. Not bad, but not very good either. I give it 2.75 Fred the Baker's (the Time to Make the Donuts guy).

  7. This beer reminds me of that Judgement Night soundtrack back in the 90s where they paired grunge and hip hop artists doing original songs. Pearl Jam & Cypress Hill, Mudhoney & Sir Mix A Lot. It didn’t really work. This mixing of drinkable genres isn’t too bad though. Best of the flavored porters in this year’s run. 3 out of 5 Del the Funky Homosapiens
