Heavy Seas Sea Nymph

Heavy Seas, as a brand, was an extension of Clipper City to handle higher gravity beers. The company is now called Heavy Seas with the beers segmented in one of three categories based on style/season: Clipper Fleet (lighter beers), Pyrate Fleet (high gravity beers), and Mutiny Fleet (seasonal beers). Sea Nymph is a member of the Clipper Fleet.

About Heavy Seas' Sea Nymph:  A crisp and refreshing ale, with a delicate malt foundation and mild hops. Light gold in color, yet crisp and refreshing. This summer ale will pair well with grilled seafood and salads. Perfect for a long summer day.

ABV: 4.5%

  1. Haven't tried it yet, but seems dumb that this beer is a member of the Clipper Fleet (lighter beers) rather than the Mutiny Fleet (SEASONAL beers) when it is a "SUMMER ale"...Hate it already!!

  2. Good start to the 24 beers of summer. this had a nice citrusy flavor but didn't need the fruit that many of our christmas beers needed. Enjoyed the beer a lot and could have another. give the beer a 8 rating, loses points because it's from Baltimore.

  3. I thought this beer was okay until I read Congable's post. Now I hate it.

It's actually pretty good. I'd drink it again, though I usually prefer something hoppier. I do like that it's only 4.5% ABV...perfect for a binge drinker like myself.

  4. This beer was average but I do like the name. Kind of a bitter after taste for my liking for a summer ale. I would not buy it on my own.

  5. Nothing spectacular but the description seems pretty accurate. I could imagine happily drinking quite a few of these at a summer cookout.

  6. I thought it was pretty average. Nothing special here. I had no problem drinking it but I would prefer something else. I would give this a 6.5 out of 10.

  7. I think it is quite appropriate that we cracked open the Heavy Seas right as the whitecaps formed in my backyard. As I finished this up, I stood on my porch and watched the beautiful new lake that was now sitting where my lawn used to be as it slowly drained into my neighbor's basement. But I digress. Yes, Baltimore sucks, but the one thing they do know how to do in Baltimore is drink beer. Ro and I both found this beer to be spectacular. Perfect for summer. This could easily work into my regular rotation. I'd like to add that it's also much safer than the Heavy Seas Loose Cannon which ruined last Sunday morning and much of Sunday afternoon.

  8. Bill...that is exactly why I picked this beer to be the first beer. I thought it would be appropriate to drink the Heavy Seas beer in this down pour tonight.

    2. Nothing special from my perspective, but as noted, the beer certainly fit the weather.

  9. I would describe this as pleasant. It is fitting for the season and seems to generally meet the description.

On a nice warm day, I could mow through a few of these without much thought and be perfectly happy. However, I don't imagine going out of my way for it either.

Ultimately, I don't know if it lives up to its moniker. Maybe instead of Sea Nymph, it could be called Sea Platonic Friend.

  10. Well I assume Brad will love this beer b/c it had very little flavor and was very light. Basically a lite beer. So Bland for the first beer out of the shoot. However since I did not have seafood to pair with this beer I was forced to pair it with my tofu and vegatable dinner. Maybe my food pairing could have had something to do with the blandness?

    Rating: 4.5

  11. I thought this was pretty boring, but definitely very drinkable. I just got home from chaperoning prom, so I am technically drinking this on June 2nd, and I might add by myself because my husband has already gone to sleep.

  12. Day 1; 50 percent posts - just like the beer, so/so.

  13. checking in late for day 1 - I can't really say much about this beer other than its very lite. at least its very drinkable.

what i want in a summer ale is a really bad head ache after having just 3 or 4 sitting in the sun (sam summer ale is great at this) - these are too lite for that.

i might order one of these out at the bar instead of a miller if it wasn't from maryland.

  14. Late on the review; drank on schedule. I was hoping to like the Sea
Nymph since I do enjoy the Heavy Seas Loose Cannon. Appearance: Fine
for a summer. Smell: Average to below average. Taste: Not good. Malt
was not crisp. I didn't get any citrus or any special "summer"
aspects. No hops. Maybe a bit metallic and a tad sour. Mouthfeel:
Fine for a summer ale. Tough call between C+ and D-. I will go with
C-, since it is the first one out of the gate.

  15. Initially this seemed to be a ho hum repeat of day 1. Then, in less than 5 minutes I was done and looking for another. All in all not bad, but still unremarkable

  16. A lovely sparkling water. Expected something more from heavy seas. Well crafted and refreshing but generally lacks any memorable characteristics. Unsatisfying for a boy who really wants to taste his beer.

  17. Beer is extremely light. No taste at all. I might as well drink a large glass of cold ass water on hot summer day!

  18. Really, the brewery spells pirate as pyrate? I haven't drank the beer yet but that's going to make me very likely to trash this beer in my review.

And what the hell is a higher gravity beer?

The pyrate/higher gravity beer stuff is annoying. The beer is okay but not enough to overcome how annoying the marketing is.
