Sixpoint's Apollo Ale

The unmistakable flavor of a Bavarian Wheat, but with a clear golden brilliance and a Sixpoint twist. An entirely unique canned offering for the sun-worshipping ale lovers.

ABV: 5.2%

  1. I'm exhausted hitting refresh each day waiting to see if the blog owner has posted the days beer. I blame my lack of recent posts on this fact. Anyhow, this was my least favorite beer of the month, big fat loser to end on. And 16 ounces, yippee.

  2. Bavarian Wheat??? R U Kidding me??? Everyone knows Bavarian Wheat sucks! American Wheat, German Wheat heck even Ireland wheat is much better. This beer sucked although the color was nice. I blame using a tin can instead of a bottle. Boy can you taste the tin which coupled with Bavarian Wheat is not a good combination. Not a good way to end but very consistent with the 24 beers (very inconsistent).

    Rating: 5.5

Thank you Mark, Tony and all the other folks who put this together. I can honestly say I tasted beers that I would never in a million years have purchased myself. I am always up for trying anything and feel like I have gained valuable insight in this experiment. And I got 3 new beers that I would purchase. I will post my top 5 tomorrow.

  3. Shocker - I'm just not a fan of the taste of the Appollo.

I'll echo Joe's thoughts - thanks Bolts, Tony and Katy. It was a varied selection of beers and a few even tasted good to the macrobrew crowd (me). And it's always fun to read all of the different opinions.

  4. This one tasted a little salty. Oh wait, that the tears welling up as I realize this is the final beer. Seriously, I have loved doing this. I know there was some complaints about the summers, but summer beer is what summer beer is. Besides, you need to taste some duds to figure out what it good. I also loved reading the comments and other points of view, even if there could have been a few more of them. Thank you Bolts, Tony and Katy for your efforts and letting me join in the fun.

As for Apollo, it was not good. Almost made me root for Ivan Drago in Rocky IV. I wasn't a fan of the "perfumy" aroma, which lingered into the taste and left it overly sweet. Ultimately, I've had much better wheats.

I plan to rank all of the entries, or at least give top and bottom 5, tomorrow. Thanks again!

  5. Too much work and not enough play makes tommy a very sober boy. I fell off on the last six due to unforeseen circumstances at work. I am getting caught up in style tonight.
Thank you to those who gave of your time and energy to make all this happen!
Thank you to all of you who participated and were posting regularly. Even the most horrible was a ton of fun cuz we all got to share in the horror together. I am sad for you if you were not able to grasp what an amazing experience both of these adventures in beer have been.

Apollo - In a word...horrible. I drank it but it really was not easy to do. I sure hope I never show up to a kegger where all they had was this beer. Can you imagine a keg stand...give me natty Bo instead!

I can't wait for the next round!

  6. Tony and I were 2 days behind, so the this one as well as the Pale Ale was put in the freezer yesterday evening. Tony remembered to take them out about an hour after they were frozen. So, we won't be drinking these until tonight (Monday). Thanks to those of you that participated and used the blog to share your thoughts. It makes it more fun when we can share stories about the same beer. I'm dissapointed in the slackers that only posted a few times out of 24, but I am happy that Anonymous didn't show up. Day 25 is here, so feel free to drink the 25th beer with us - WGB = Miller Lite.

  7. Ah yes, the WGB - the World's Greatest Beer, Miller Lite. Some of the great things about the WGB.
    1) Reasonably priced ($17.99 for a case at your local 7-11)
    2) Doesn't require huge capital expenditures. No expensive openers needed - just pop the can. And it doesn't have to be drunk out of some fancy-schmancy schooner so that it breathes correctly. Again, just drink it out of the can.
    3) Food pairings - nobody has thought to make a list about possible food pairings with Miller Lite. As it should be.
    4) No peaches, no pineapples, no pomegranates. Or any other fruit or vegetable. And I've never seen anyone put a lime wedge in one.
    5) Greatest late night beer. What beer does everybody turn to at 2 A.M. You guessed it - the WGB.
    6) And lastly, the taste. Does it have a unique and powerful taste. No. Does it seem a little watery? Check. The WGB ain't no sippin' beer. It's made to be thrown back. The beer to have when you're having more than one.

Now, micro beer lovers - hammer away at the WGB. I've been blasting the micros, so here's your chance for revenge.

I agree with Scott that it was really interesting to hear all the different opinions on the beers. It would seem that most of you have a more refined beer palate than do I.

  8. so i had the apollo last night, a day late, but I realized I could have done without this beer. If the 24 beers of summer has taught me anything is that I don't like wheat beers. But there was a lot of beers that I liked, like the Goose Island beers which i found is on tap at my favorite watering hole across the street from my house. Looking forward to the 24 beers of christmas.

  9. I just drank this beer...two words...not good. It taste like this can of beer has been sitting around for for 5 years and it sucks. I can say that I am not responsible for the selection of beers for the 24 Days of Summer Beers as that was Mark's responsibility, but I am 100% responsible for the order and I'm sorry I selected such a dud to end our journey on. This beer was terrible 4 out of 10, D-

  10. With my first sip, I thought it tasted like Saison Dupont which is one of my favorite beers. And then it got worse and worse with each sip. Better than the fruity beers, but not as good as I expected. Luckily with Ro drinking half I only had 8 ounces. Until she decided she didn't want it and I ended up with 15.2 ounces.

  12. This is far later than I intended, but need to wrap up the good and the bad:

    Favorites:

    Least Favorites:

Um, yeah – Peach beer. Ugh!

I will say, looking back, there was a lot more that I liked than I thought. Summer beers just to tend to be subtle, and I like beer that punches me in the face (but not literally).

I hope I can join the fun again in the winter, or perhaps even for the fall (my favorite time for seasonal beers).
