It's been said that "Gravity Sucks." Simple enough. Well, we
at Stone have identified gravitational forces in the beer world. And we have
come to the conclusion that they, well, see above. So we avoid these
less-than-desirable gravitational forces. We avoid dumbed-down flavor profiles
and the vigorous pursuit of the lowest common denominator. We avoid big dollar
marketing mentalities. We avoid additives, cheap adjuncts, stabilizers and
chemical preservatives. So in the defiance of gravity we bring you Stone
Levitation Ale. This deep amber ale has rich malt flavors, a big hoppy
character, citrus overtones (courtesy of the hops and our special brewers yeast)
and modest alcohol.

Wow, what flavor! Wow, what color! Wow, what a creamy head! Wow, what a smooth Ale. Any moment my wife is going to yell to me "Joe wake up you are dreaming". But nope this is really a beer on our summer Odyssey. Thank God this beer is near the end of the 24 days b/c it makes me come back tomorrow night.

i'm double posting, since I doubled up on the beers tonight. Last night's beer the Summer Solstice was a great summer beer. It really well while i was grilling hamburgers on the grill tonight. To me it was the personification of summer beer and summer beer drinking. I enjoyed the carmel after taste and I'll definatly seek more of these out in the coming weeks. 9 out of 10.
ReplyDeleteBeer 2: This was different. It was a very full body beer and I enjoyed it, just doesn't seem like a summer beer, especially after the summer solstice beer. The English lesson on the back was nice, it's always nice to learn while you drink. 7 out of 10
I'm hoping Cassandra doesn't like her two beers and I'll get to enjoy them both all over again.
A very good rich beer with definite flavor, but nothing overwhelming. Not too malty, not too hoppy, not too fruity (really until reading it in the description, I wouldn't have thought citrus at all). All in all a well balanced ale that I will order in a pub the next time I see it.
ReplyDeleteI was prepared and already had a sixer of this in the fridge since I knew I couldn't drink just one. I love this beer and Stone is the only good to come out of San Diego. I also love the fact it's 4.5% ABV so my newly lightweight suburban ass can actually drink more than 3 before I start drooling on myself. I agree it's not the most summery of beers, but I'll take it over such summer staples as watermelon, peach, and pineapple in beer form. That's not my summer.
ReplyDeleteDrank it straight from the bottle, apparently a forbidden thing to do. Drank this while cooking on the deck in near 100 degree temps. Tasted amazing, but I'm pretty sure old egg nog would have been pleasing too, so there's that.
ReplyDeleteDelicious...wish I would have taken Bill's approach and had a sixer of this so I could have more than one today. I'm enjoying this beer as I type and really want another. Here's to hoping Katy doesn't like hers. 9 out of 10, A
ReplyDeleteGreat ale. Loved the flavor and the story on the bottle. Reminds me of the ales I drank when in London. Relatively light and drinkable. Well crafted beer that I could drink a case of.
ReplyDeleteI really didn't like the taste of this one, so Tony has an extra one to drink. I think the malt taste is what brings it down for me. These Stone beers get really high ratings, but I haven't liked any of the ones I have tasted.
