Maui Brewing's Mana Wheat

Where’s My Ukulele? An unfiltered freshly handcrafted American-style wheat ale infused with Maui Gold Pineapple. Our crisp and refreshing wheat ale is lightly hopped to allow the fruity sweetness of the pineapple to shine. The yeast stays in suspension making the ale traditionally cloudy.

ABV: 5.5%

  1. Here we go again another fruit infused beer. This one is better then the peach and the watermelon but I wouldn't go out of my way to drink this again. In my opinion Abita's strawberry beer is the best fruit beer I have ever had.

  2. At what point can I ask for a refund? Pineapple?? I was joking earlier in this beer tasting when I said, what's next --- apricot flavored beer? I said this b/c I thought no way would we have Watermelon flavored chapstick and 3 day old pineapple slices from a dented can at the supermarket. This beer tastes like it was inside a can (it was) and left in some warehouse from last summer's batch (probably). I get the fact that we are trying summer beers but can we get summer beers instead of wine coolers? Or did I get the wrong memo? I notice Cousin Dave did not partake in this wine cooler taste test; maybe he was onto this rouse.

    1. Actually, Dogfish has an apricot (called Aprihop). I would take it over anything we've had so far, as far as fruity beers... at least it has a lot of hops.

  3. I was really looking forward to this one because: 1- This brewery won the Washington Post blind taste test with its Coconut Stout 2- I have family that lived in Hawaii and praised this brewery 3- The bewery wisely did not mention pineapple in the beer name, which prevented me from knowing what I was getting into until I read it on the can right before drinking it.

Alas, despite the anticipation, I still ended my evening drinking fruity beer without much else going on. I think I like it more than the watermelon, if only because the finish isn't as sweet so the fruitiness goes away sooner. How's that for a backhanded compliment.

  4. 1st peach, then watermelon, now pineapple juice? Drinking this beer was like drinking spiked pineapple juice. I got through it but think I'm going to go clense my pallet with a Silver Bullet. 3 out of 10

  5. Just wait till you get to the prune beer. One optimistic way to look at these beers....you are having the pleasure of trying just one and determining if you like it, rather than making any sort of investment. In others, shut up and drink your beer. All this whining is unbecoming of 23 of you. #24: joe m, it was expected.

    1. Dear God

I know you are an all loving God and all knowing God. Can you answer several questions? Does a tree make a sound when it falls in the forest with no one around? Does Brad really finish all his beers? Does Bill make up any of his beer stories? Does any of these beers tasted better with the suggested food pairings? Does this group taste anymore fruit smoothies?

  6. Dear God,

I didn't need to try the peach, watermelon or pineapple beer to know that I didn't like them.

Also, if you could provide me the MegaMillions numbers in some sort of a holy vision, well I'd be pretty damn grateful. Please make it one of the drawings that is over $180 million. Thx.

  7. C+, overall good in the "medium" group. happy they kept the fruit subtle. in an otherwise strictly BMC restaurant this would be a happy surprise.

  8. I actually kind of enjoyed this one. And it got better the more I drank it. I didn't think it was overly pineappley. It was pretty sweet however, but alright. It gets a B.

  9. The peach was horrible, the watermelon was not much better, so the expectations going into this one were pretty low. However, I don't get much of the pineapple taste and I don't think this beer is all that bad. A decent beer for a hot summer day. 7.5 out of 10, C+

  10. The pineapple was not overwhelming and I was able to finish it pretty easily. A decent wheat beer, but not my favorite.

  13. I expected worse. Much, much worse. I actually put this off for a week since Ro refused to drink it. I don't get an overpowering pineapple flavor. I get some other weird flavor which I'm not really comfortable with. And I have no idea what that flavor is. And yet I keep drinking it. Must find flavor. I originally thought this was from Kona Brewing Company. Never heard of this Maui brewing company. They didn't have that when I was in Lahaina many moons ago. I like Kona better. They had a Mehana Brewing company in Hilo. That was pretty cool. Some Washington State ex-pats in a warehouse. We took the tour. It consisted of them pouring us each one of their beers. My kind of tour. And then some Hawaiian kid stole my driver's license and I barely made it off the Big Island but I digress.
